Innovative fire detection and voice evacuation solutions
IKEA in Romania
Schrack Seconet provided a complex system of fire detection and voice evacuation for the newest IKEA store in Romania.
After the successful project carried out in Bucharest for the same commercial chain, Schrack Seconet implemented for the new store located in Timisoara a complex fire alarm system that integrates PAVA system solutions.
"A constantly changing space with many areas that are continuously remodeled represents a challenge for the reliability of these types of systems. The solution provided by Schrack Seconet includes the latest technical possibilities to obtain high-performance in terms of fire protection regardless of the number of changes in decorations from the entire store.'' states Mr. Alexandru Mateiciuc, head of representative office Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria. Fire detection is monitored by 4 Integral EvoxX MF control panels networked and optimized for the surveillance of large areas. The use of these types of control panels provides an important benefit to the entire system, by offering complete redundancy and future possibilities for modernization or expansion - a smart investment due to the compatibility with next-generation systems.
Our solution
1000 multiple sensor detectors MTD 533X and duct smoke detectors LKM 593X are used throughout the entire shop to allow immediate and accurate fire location. The storage area with long and high rows of shelves and countless stacked goods, required the installation of 44 aspirating smoke units ASD 535 which constantly checks a system of about 5650m of PVC pipe mounted along the shelves. Listec solutions have been installed in cold storage areas with negative temperatures; the ideal solution for detecting and locating fires with extreme precision in places where other systems are impossible to be used. Here, 2 Listec evaluation units SCU 835 permanently analyse the data for over 176 meters of sensor cables mounted inside the refrigerated display cases. Outside the store, infrared flame detectors protect the loading/unloading ramps and the area with air conditioning cooling units.
The installed technology
200 buttons for manual triggering of fire alarms, 375 input and output modules for automation and controls, 110 external power supplies, 13 magnetic door holders for closing the fire doors, and 60 flashes were installed on the entire surface of the store. A total of 4,500 data points have been monitored via Secolog IP, Schrack Seconet's alarm management system solution which combines various hazard detection systems into one and allows viewing, monitoring and operation from a central location. Voice alarm systems are of major importance when it comes to the safety of thousands of people unfamiliar with the escape routes in commercial spaces.
For a perfectly coordinated integrated solution, Schrack Seconet connected its fire alarm system with the PAVA system created by g+m Elektronik, its sister company. For the IKEA store, we have installed a PAVA system capable of operating continuously for 1 hour in an alarm state and for 48 hours in a stand-by state under the exclusive use of external power sources. This solution was possible by mounting 38 backup power supplies which support a complex system of equipment including 38 amplifiers of 2x250 W and 500 W respectively, 190 ceiling speakers of 6 W, 44 two-way speakers with housing applied metal 10W, 120 round metal speakers of 10 W, 18 sound projectors, 330 pendant speakers with 2-way 30 W and 16 W respectively, 69 horns of 20 W of which 4 for ex zones.
Considering the changing volume of decorations designed inside the store and the quality required by IKEA, Schrack Seconet together with its installation partner used special analysis software to evaluate the placement and direction of the speakers to achieve the requested level of intelligibility and necessary acoustics. The analysis software was also necessary because the location didn’t have sirens, and safety in operation is based on the usage of parallel lines which feed the loudspeakers with the signal in the A/B system. The result was an EVAC system capable of achieving automatic volume control for several zones due to its ambient noise-measuring microphones and the digital matrix of automatic noise cancellation. With a future-oriented concept, the system complies with EN 54-16 standards and has an excellent acoustic quality for advertisements, background music, and evacuation messages, creating the perfect environment for designing inspiration and safe shopping.
For the protection of people and values.
