Schrack Seconet protects PENNY stores in Romania

The German holding REWE Group, one of the European leaders in the food retail industry, has been operating in Romania since 2005 with its well-known PENNY stores chain. PENNY has an impressive network, located across the entire country and is presently among the largest employers in Romania.

Currently, the company focuses on the expansion of its stores and the development of its logistics capabilities, intending to operate with 600 stores by 2029 in the Romanian market alone. An improved shopping experience, local products, people, digitalization, sustainability and integrated communication - these are the core elements driving PENNY's modernization and development strategy in Romania.

While in terms of sustainability PENNY acquired both ISO 50001 and BREEAM certifications for all its new stores, in regards to fire protection PENNY relies on Schrack Seconet’s know-how.

The standardized design of all PENNY stores allowed Schrack Seconet’s team to offer a personalized full IP system suitable for the great majority of the chain stores and ideal for monitoring small areas without specialized personnel. The result is a system formed by over 150 elements connected to a redundant X-LINE loop and precisely analyzed by the renowned Integral EvoxX BF control panel. A powerful processor, equipped with a dual-core, analyzes 60 multiple sensor detectors, 15 manual call points, 30 parallel indicators, and 16 sirens to ensure early detection and maximum security against false alarms. For the complete security of customers and investments, the system provided to PENNY stores was equipped with LKM 593X detectors, specifically designed for monitoring ventilation ducts. Mounted in the direction of the airflow, these special detectors can adjust their sensitivity by analyzing the presence of smoke particles in the ventilation ducts with extreme precision.

A future system for a store ahead of its time

The system once again showed its value through its feature of being completely extensible, which proved extremely beneficial when implementing the Future Store concept. This concept reorganized the layout of PENNY stores, providing more space for the fruit and vegetable section or for the pastry and dairy products area. The system's one-of-a-kind forward and backward compatibility concept made it possible to effortlessly incorporate new components into PENNY’s existing systems, resulting in cost-effective modernization and network expansion without any disruption to system functionality.
